Who can enroll in MiTio? Students must be fully bilingual that means that you are fluent in English and another language such as Spanish and you can speak, read, and write in both languages with the fluency of a native. For information on Language testing contact MiTio or: LTI test for languages TOEFL test for English How does it work? MiTio provides open enrollment, i.e. students can enroll and start the program at any time during the year. The program is self paced and designed to be completed within 6 weeks; however, students are allowed up to six months to complete the course. The courses are all online, which means the student must have access to the internet throughout the program. The course is language neutral, all of the material is in English, the student will translate/interpret materials into their other language. Students are expected to participate in weekly telephone practice sessions to improve their interpreting skills, and in online discussion boards. How to enroll? Once your payment information is received you will be sent an e-mail within 1 business day containing your Course Login information. How many courses must I complete to obtain a certificate? Which courses do I need to complete to obtain a Diploma? Will I obtain a Certification upon Completion? Upon completion, the student obtains a certificate in Medical Interpreting or Translating from MiTio. Does MiTio offer Continuing Education Courses? Yes, MiTio also offers 10 Continuing Education Certificate 1 unit courses (10 hours or 1 CEU) for students who have already completed a 40 hour interpreting program and can provide proof of proficiency (Via a proficiency test such as LTI, diploma/degree from L2 country, or 15 credits of L2 language from a high school or university). The courses are designed to be completed in one week; however, students are allowed up to 1 month to complete the course. The courses include: Phone Interpreting, Video Interpreting, Mental Health Interpreting, HIPAA/Confidentiality, ASL Interpreting, Train the Trainer, Cultural Competency, Interpreting Standards, Interpreting for Health Professionals, and Providers Guide to Use of Interpreters. What is the tuition? The tuition for the program is $125 per unit. Completion of all six units is required to obtain your certificate. Do you accept checks for tuition payments?
