Students passing the course will receive a certificate. Our programs in medical interpreting and translating are for multilingual professionals who are able to speak, read, and write English and another Language fluently.

How Long will it take?

Each 160 hour Diploma Program is designed to be completed in 6 months at 6-7 hours per week (see table below)


The 160 hour Translating Diploma Program

 The Medical Translating Diploma consist of four 40 hour certificate courses: Medical Translator Course I, II, III, and Medical Background

Application Process and Enrollment for New Students

1. Complete Subscription. Courses can be started that day.

2. You will receive your MiTio Username and Password within 24 business hours of Subscription. This login information serves as your unique identifier.

3. Obtain course material. Each course has its unique text book. Students should purchase the text book in order to complete the reading and essay assignments.

4. Provide prerequisite documents. Students should fax their prerequisites documents to 877-804-6643.


Medical Translator Certificate (Download Catalog Here)

This course has two main components: communication and translation. In the communication portion of the course, the focus is on the technical study of oral and written language, linguistics, communication theory, and intercultural communication. The translation portion of the course consists of practical instruction in the theoretical and technical aspects of translation by means of short theoretical presentations and practical exercises in the production of finished, proofread and edited translated texts using word processors. Students will learn how to select and use generalized and specialized dictionaries, how to compile customized glossaries and learn the best approaches to document preparation and output. Students will also have ample opportunities to interact and present material in class.

 

Prerequisites: 

Age18 (License or other government issued ID with DOB) & High School Diploma or Equivalent

 

Proof of Proficiency:

LTI test or equivalent. Students may begin course pending receipt of these documents. 

Text Book:   Basic Concepts and MOdels for Interpreter and Translatore Training


Medical Translator Certificate II

 

 Prerequisites:

 Age: 18 (License or other government issued ID with DOB) & High School Diploma or Equivalent completion of previous 40 hour Translator Training Or letter from Employer stating 1 year experience

 

Proof of Proficiency:

LTI test or equivalent. Students may begin course pending receipt of these documents. 

Text Book:   In other words: A coursebook in Translation 


Medical Translator Certificate III

 

Prerequisites: 

Age: 18 (License or other government issued ID with DOB) & High School Diploma or Equivalent Completion of previous 40 hour Intermediate Translator Training Or letter from Employer stating 1 year experience. AND Completion MiTio placement test.

 

Proof of Proficiency:

LTI test or equivalent. Students may begin course pending receipt of these documents.
