Students passing the course will receive a certificate. Our programs in medical interpreting and translating are for multilingual professionals who are able to speak, read, and write English and another Language fluently.

How Long will it take?

Each 160 hour Diploma Program is designed to be completed in 6 months at 6-7 hours per week (see table below)


The 160 hour Interpreting Diploma Program

 The Medical Interpreting Diploma consist of four 40 hour certificate courses: Medical Interpreter Course I, II, III, and Medical Background

Application Process and Enrollment for New Students

1. Complete Subscription Process. Courses can be started the same day.

2. You will receive your MiTio Username and Password within 24 business hours of Subscription. This login information serves as your unique identifier.

3. Obtain course material. Each course has its unique text book. Students should purchase the text book in order to complete the reading and essay assignments.

4. Provide prerequisite documents. Students should fax their prerequisites documents to 877-804-6643.

This 40-hour curriculum is designed to train bilingual individuals to meet the needs of doctors' offices, hospitals, emergency rooms, and other medical facilities. Students will study the basic elements of medical interpreting and prepare to enter this growing field with this introductory course. 
 
 Text Book: Healthcare Interpreting in Small Bites

Prerequisites:

Age: 18 (License or other government issued ID with DOB) & High School Diploma or Equivalent

Proof of Proficiency:

LTI test or equivalent Students may begin course pending receipt of these documents. 


Medical Interpreter Certificate II

This 40 hour course provides tools to develop and master the art and skills of medical interpreting and understand the role, responsibilities and boundaries of the interpreter, seen as an active team player in the triadic medical interview (provider-patient-interpreter).

Text Book : Basic Concept and Models for Interpreter and Translator Training 

Prerequisites:

Age: 18 (License or other government issued ID with DOB) & High School Diploma or Equivalent completion of previous 40 hour Interpreter Training Or Letter from Employer stating 1 year experience.

Proof of Proficiency:

LTI test or equivalent. Students may begin course pending receipt of these documents.  


Medical Interpreter Certificate III

This 40 hour course returns to the intensive skills-training approach of Intermediate Interpreting, but now as a much higher level.  This final course is designed to integrate and consolidate the skills, vocabulary, procedural awareness and professionalism that students have acquired over the length of the program. This course guarantees that students leave the program with their skills sharp and ready to perform at a superior level of professional capacity.

Text Book: Interpretation: Techniques and Excercises

Prerequisites:

Age: 18 (License or other government issued ID with DOB) & High School Diploma or Equivalent completion of previous 40 hour Interpreter Training Or Letter from Employer stating 1 year experience.


Proof of Proficiency:

LTI test or equivalent AND Completion MiTio placement test. Students may begin course pending receipt of these documents.
