Facilitators

Our Facilitators

Facilitators:   MiTio Facilitators have a Doctoral or a Master’s degree in language or related field.Facilitators all have a minimum of 3 years in the interpreting field, as well as experience as educators. Duties include; practice sessions, forums, and assignment facilitation.

Our Live Session Facilitators:  

Dr. Nelva Lee, LNHA

Dr. Nelva Lee is the founder and developer of the Medical Interpreting and Translating Institute Online (MiTio). Dr. Lee is a native of Panama and speaks fluent Spanish as certified by the Language Testing International.  Dr. Lee was the Director of the Grady Health System's Interpreter Program in 2002. Dr. Lee was a Subject Matter Expert in the creation of the CMI exam for the NBCMI and was respectively it's first Chair. 

Omar Castellon, CMI

Omar has been a Medical Interpreter since 2008 and a Facilitator with MiTio since 2009. Omar is in the process of obtaining his BA in Modern Languages. Omar currently workes as a Spanish Medical Interpreter for Kaiser Permanaente. His duties and responsibilities with MiTio include providing assistance to students enrolled in our courses by answering questions related to their assignments.  Organizing practice sessions twice per week via Skype to practice medical vocabulary and interpreting skills. Omar also reviews and grades translation assignments for one of the courses.

MiTio is a WIA Eligible Training Provider in many states.

MiTio President Dr. Lee was the Chair of the National Board of Certification for Medical Interpreters NBCMI 2009-2010.
